Bio

Second Pass is a powerful Canadian heavy rock band from Toronto, Ontario. Band members are: Phere Midhe (vocals), Steve Pass (guitar), Andrew Buntain (bass) and Kevin Costa (drums).

Second Pass was formed in 2008 by founding members, Steve and Andrew. As the Second Pass sound evolved, Bolivian vocalist Phere Midhe (f.k.a. Veronica McNamee) joined the band in 2013 breathing new life into the band’s  songwriting and performance. With Kevin joining in 2015, blending driving hard-hitting rhythms to the mix, Second Pass was complete.

Second Pass released its first EP, “Fragments”, in 2013.  Tracks like "Biting My Tongue" and Broken Life" received  FM radio play in Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Honduras and Spain, to name a few countries, and garnered a solid following. A video for ‘Biting My Tongue’ was filmed on location in La Paz, Bolivia.

Fragments was followed by a four-song EP, “The Damned Poet” released in the summer of 2014. That same year, the band appeared at five US and Canadian tour stops on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, headlined by Avenged Sevenfold and Korn. Mayhem was considered to be North America’s largest heavy metal touring festival, having attracted more than 1.7 million fans since its inception in 2008. The band was invited back in July 2015 to perform at Mayhem’s Toronto show, with Slayer as the headliner.

Following the band’s third EP release “Ephemerality”, in December 2015, the band travelled state-side to perform at the Northern Invasion Festival in Wisconsin, and the Rocklahoma festival in Oklahoma.

Second Pass has performed on stages all over Southern Ontario, opening for artists such as 3Teeth, Lee Aaron, Art of Anarchy, The Fell, Green Jelly, Jackyl, Lynch Mob, Misfits, Slaughter, Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Texas Hippie Coalition, Wednesday 13, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, and Papa Roach.

The fourth EP, “Smiling Deadly”, with an accompanying video filmed in Toronto, was released in the spring of 2018 and received strong accolades and worldwide digital exposure.

In 2020/21, the global challenge the world experienced brought out the inspiration for Second Pass' latest compositions and accompanying videos. Finally released on February 12, 2022, the 3 song EP,  BREAKDOWN, is a musical experience which begins with the instrumental piece, Trialogue, a velvety and slithery throb that transforms into the heavy clamorous protest that is Breakdown. Adding a cover of Kyuss' One Inch Man, BREAKDOWN showcases the power that is Second Pass.
